Talaash - Music Review

Aamir Khan joining hands with Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment for a movie is bound to send expectations through the roof!

The star cast is quite exciting as well, Aamir, Kareena, Rani, Nawazuddin (Remember Gangs of Wasseypur?...this guy is finally climbing up the ladder).

The promos look great, and one can expect a nail biting thriller. Which makes me feel there will be less scope for music in such a movie.

Ram Sampath gets his first movie with Excel Entertainment, and a third project with Aamir Khan Productions after the map cap comedy Delhi Belly & Satyamev Jayate.

Javed Akhtar, a regular with Farhan's productions, writes the lyrics for this album as well.

Let us see how the music fares for this murder mystery...

1. Muskaanein jhooti hai - An ideal song to be set in a bar, and which hints of the mystery and tension one can expect in the movie. The double bass sound makes the track sound good, sung superbly by Suman Shridhar and well written. One of the best track of the album.
Rating - 3.5/5

2. Jee le zara - A song which solely rides on Vishal's vocals. Minimal music arrangement, backed with good guitar work. An intriguing track which probably would look better as a part of the movie than a stand alone track.
Rating - 3/5

3. Hona hai kya - A track similar to the previous song in terms of the mood and theme. This soundtrack sticks to the theme of the movie, and is likely to be played in the background. Sung by Ram Sampath, it has better music arrangement and is more racier. One more track, which should add to the impact of the movie.
Rating - 3/5

4. Jiya lage na - I was not expecting a song like this on the album. A pleasant surprise, a lovely fusion track, with great music arrangements. Ravindra Upadhyay and Sona Mohapatra sing it really well. The best track of the album along with Muskaneein. A special mention to the lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Rating - 3.5/5

5. Laakh duniya kahe - Sung by Ram Sampath himself, is a mellow number with a soft rock feel to it. The highlight of the track is the lyrics by Javed Akhtar. This song should have been sung by someone else, because we have heard quite a bit of Ram Sampath singing the tracks he composed for Satyamev Jayate. The template of the song is also similar to the usual "hope is not lost" kind of numbers.
Rating - 3/5

There was not much scope for music for a movie like this which is an out and out thriller. Yet Ram Sampath gives a good score with couple of really good songs.

The soundtrack adds more value to the eagerly awaited movie!

Overall Rating - 3/5

My pick - Jiya laage na, Muskaanein Jhoothi hai.
